Dress to Compress! {Sponsored Review and Giveaway!}

Ever seen a runner wearing what looks like knee socks? Or professional football or basketball players wearing spandex-looking sleeves on their arms? That’s compression gear and you don’t have to be an athlete to reap the benefits!

I first became acquainted with compression gear during my second pregnancy. I suffered from tired veins, not technically varicose because the valves were working correctly (though that is common among pregnant women too). My legs felt heavy, the veins behind my knees became more noticeable and my feet would swell at the end of the day. My OB immediately recommended support hose for the next six months.

I donned medical grade flesh colored maternity support hose religiously including while I taught my Stroller Strength classes. Sure, I tried to bring the 1980‘s Jane Fonda look back all in the name of healthier veins. After testing a couple of 110% Play Harder’s compression products this summer, I realized I didn’t have to commit such a fashion faux pas.

110% Play Harder is a sports compression gear company locally based in Ponte Vedra and sold at both Jacksonville Running Company locations. Many professional and amateur athletes swear by their stuff so I was excited to try them out during my marathon training this summer. 110% products are unique because in addition to providing compression to increase circulation, prevent swelling and muscle fatigue, their products have built in pockets for ice packs so you can recover quickly!

I wore their calf sleeves both during and after several training runs and I was impressed with the results. The compression sleeves made my legs feel lighter immediately. My favorite part was slipping the ice packs inside to prevent inflammation. As moms, we don’t get a lot of time to prop our feet up during the day, let alone stay still to ice for ten minutes if we are hurting. Being able to tuck the ice packs inside the sleeves and go on with my day was priceless.

In addition to the calf sleeves, I wore the Juggle Knickers. These compression capris look and feel similar to a long bike short making them supportive and comfortable when you move. There are ice sleeves on top of the major leg muscles targeting the glutes, hamstrings and along the IT band, the main culprits of leg pain.

I love 110% compression gear because it is so versatile. So many women like nurses and teachers are on their feet all day. Say you travel for work during the week, you can wear the calf sleeves on the plane or while you drive! Like I mentioned earlier, many pregnant women suffer from vein issues and need extra support. Though medical grade support hose may still be recommended, I can attest 110% gear is much better suited and more comfortable while giving you the same results.
