Selfie Alert: The Best Murals in Jacksonville

jacksonville murals

When I agreed to do this post, I thought I’d just run around, snap a few photos of some artwork, list some addresses, and call it a day. GUYS. I had so. much. fun. doing this! I got to see parts of of the city that I normally never would, and this little adventure reminded me how lucky we are to get to call Jacksonville home.

In 2016, an initiative was launched to establish the urban core of Jax as a nationally recognized art district, and friends, these artists are gettin’ after it. Once I started driving around looking for these murals, it was shocking to me how much art is downtown. Open your eyes, and get out there and see it, people!

Here are a few tips, if you decide to make a day of it:

1. Mapquest it. Use Mapquest to plug in all of the addresses you want to hit, and use the route planner feature. It will line up all of your stops so you’re not driving in circles.

2. Keep your eyes peeled. Be on the lookout for stops and art you don’t expect! As I said, it’s evvvvverywhere — you just have to look.

3. Be aware of your surroundings at all times. Especially if you plan to take the kiddos to get those Insta-worthy photos.

4. Bring on the hashtags. When you do snag some Insta-worthy gems, tag ’em with #JMBlovesJax and #JaxMurals, so we can share new art with each other!

Without further ado, here are some of my favorite murals in Jacksonville — ideal for that perfect photo shoot or selfie.

Reddi Arts, 1037 Hendricks Ave, Jacksonville, FL 32207.  Be sure to stop at BB’s next door for dessert! YUM.

Museum of Science and History (MOSH), 1025 Museum Cir, Jacksonville, FL 32207. BONUS: This one is right next to one of my favorite places, the Friendship Fountain. If you haven’t been, you simply must… it’s magical.

927 Events building, 927 W Forsyth St, Jacksonville, FL 32204.

Incredible and a great one for the #nailedit photos as seen on my Instagram account. I’ve obviously been doing yoga. (#sarcasm) 745 West Forsyth Street, Jacksonville, Florida 32204.

315 West Forsyth Street, Jacksonville, Florida 32204.

Akel’s Deil, 315 W Forsyth St, Jacksonville, FL 32202. This one obviously has some construction going on in front of it, but don’t give up on it… it’s super cool!

47 West Forsyth Street, Jacksonville, FL 32204. Great view of the Carling building from here, too!

Burrito Gallery, 21 East Adams Street, Jacksonville, FL 32202.

838 Edgewood Avenue South, Jacksonville, FL 32205. Somehow, some way, this one screams, “This is going to look cool on Instagram.” I’ve seen it plain as day in an Instagram post, but I sure couldn’t figure out how to make it happen.  If you know the magic filter, hook a sister up!

Side of the oh-so-precious Murray Hill Theater, 932 Edgewood Avenue South, Jacksonville, Florida 32205.

Side of Tradewinds, 955 Edgewood Avenue South, Jacksonville, FL 32205. Super close to the Dreamette. If you stop for one of those dipped cones they’ve been serving up since 1948, bring your piggy bank — it’s cash only!

Behind Edgewood Diner at 954 Edgewood Avenue South, Jacksonville, FL 32205.

On the side of Grater Goods at 1080 Edgewood Avenue South, Jacksonville, Florida 32205.

This is just a small sampling of all of the incredible art and murals that Jax has to offer. Go get some selfies in front of them, and have fun exploring new parts of your city! If you would like to read more about these murals and the artists behind them, check out jaxmurals.com.

To read the digital mural in Murray Hill, apply a black and white filter and crank the contrast.
