This is FAR from a conservatory. It’s really just a location that subcontracts space to music teachers who left us with a very poor impression. A very unprofessional front desk staff (Sherrie) and an inconsiderate vocal instructor (Janet Gilmer) and piano teacher (Jerry Gilmer) resulted in us leaving after just one lesson from each. Prior to my 9 year old daughter’s first voice lesson, Janet asked that she bring the lyrics to a favorite song. My daughter practiced and was eager to show what she could do but not only didn’t Janet allow her to sing, she pushed her to sing at the same high operatic soprano voice she shreeks at…which was very frustrating and impossible for my daughter. Compound that with a small practice room in which Janet’s overwhelming floral soap or perfume triggered an allergic reaction and you have a miserable first impression with a child who understandably refused further instruction. Janet was too busy to even speak with me afterward. We asked for a new voice teacher the next day and were told one would be in touch; of course, no one ever contacted us. We were scheduled to continue piano lessons the next week with Janet’s husband but he failed to show for the lesson…nice Thanks Jerry…some people take off of work early to meet with you; not me ever again. When I asked Sherry at the front desk why she didn’t call me about the cancellation she advised “that’s not my job.” This so-called “conservatory” is anything but one. Go elsewhere; JAX has lots of music teachers.
