The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah tells the stories of two sisters, separated by years and experience, by ideals, passion, and circumstances, each embarking on her own dangerous path towards survival.
For our next JMB Book Club Selection, we’re heading to France in 1939 during WWII and reading the Nightingale by Kristin Hannah. I’m excited for this novel to transport us back to a time and place where we get to explore the “women’s war” that required sacrifices and sometimes impossible choices to save themselves and their children.
I’ve read a couple of books by this Author and she does an amazing job of writing female characters, so I don’t doubt the characters in this novel will give us a ton to talk about. Plus, there’s always something fun about reading Fiction that’s set during real life historical events. I can’t imagine what it was like for these women living in times of war and look forward to exploring the choices of seemingly two different female characters.
In love we find out who we want to be. In war we find out who we are.
I’ll continue to post weekly updates as we read through the book, but to give everyone some time to pick up (or download) a copy and get started, my first post will be on Monday, April 20th where I’ll recap the first four chapters (That was my not so sneaky way of adding in your first reading assignment).
Have you joined our JMB Book Club Facebook Group? If not, click here and get in on the conversation! We virtually meet each week to talk about the chapters we’ve read, what we love and hate about the book and it’s characters, and mostly just have a lot of fun.
