Social Graces and Preschool: Can They Really Go Together?

Not only is the answer yes, it’s FUNdamental! You’ve heard the expression “you can’t teach an old dog new tricks,” right? Well, the same can be said for manners. Social graces – self-confidence, respect, consideration for others, common sense and manners – are difficult if not impossible to instill as children grow older. When taught from the beginning, they become the basis for the child’s moral compass.

The Chappell Schools have been providing quality education to the children of Jacksonville, Florida for more than 55 years; we consider ourselves rather, ahem, “seasoned.” Founded in 1958 by Mrs. Chappell, we have a different concept of caring for youngsters. We care for the TOTAL child. In addition to the school readiness skills we teach, we gently weave social graces into everything we do.

We also provide excellence in academics. We create “super readers!” Chappell is the ONLY preschool in Florida teaching the Sunform Alphabet system, and we have three-year-old readers that prove its effectiveness.

Even our infant and “wobbler” classes share the same curriculum theme as their VPK counterparts. Sure the books and the lessons are age appropriate, but when we’re reading about/talking about say, animals, we ALL read about/talk about animals!

If you are new to the State, do you know about Florida’s Voluntary Pre-kindergarten (VPK) program? This is a free program to ensure our 4-year-old children are ready to excel in kindergarten! Chappell offers VPK year round – so if your child is set to start kindergarten in the fall and they haven’t been to VPK, you can place them in our summer VPK program. Or, if your child turns four on or before by September 1, you should enroll him or her in the fall VPK program.

Chappell has eight locations in Duval County and we care for youngsters from six weeks of age through VPK. We are the official childcare provider for FSCJ, and four of our campuses are nestled on the college campuses throughout town.

We partner closely with you, the parent, to develop confident and socially responsible young men and women. Our three-year-old children learn sharing and patience through our Teddy Bear Tea program, and the four’s graduate to a full, fine dining experience. This summer, we are introducing a Barney Party for our two-year-olds featuring Barney’s “Please and Thank You” song.

As part of our fine dining curriculum, our four-year-old gentlemen learn to pull out the chairs for the four-year-old “ladies.” They know the difference between a salad fork and a dinner fork, and how to properly eat soup and “pat” their mouths with a cloth napkin.

Aside from etiquette, we also get dirty and grow our food! We eat fruits and veggies from our organic gardens. We recycle, we teach a responsible lifestyle. We’re fit – we’re active – we’re EcoHealthy®. Best of all – we’re happy!

Whether you’re looking for a preschool for your child, or a summer program, we hope you’ll come and introduce yourself! We have a wide array of summer programs available: Summer camp, Summer VPK and VPK Masters just to name a few. There are nearly 700 families that currently call Chappell home and we invite your family to join us!

Thank you to The Chappell Schools for sponsoring this post!
