Pinterest Success! A Valentine’s Craft for the Uncrafty

If you’re like me, Pinterest is not a source of crafty ideas and fun activities to do with your kids. It’s a constant reminder that you are not crafty and that you’ll never have the time or creativity to pull off the amazing parties and awesome projects that your friends are doing.

Even more, every time you log on to Pinterest you feel an overwhelming sense of guilt to organize your house from head to toe and have a healthy yet delicious tasting meal on the table every night. Don’t get me wrong, I’m on Pinterest all the time, constantly pinning things in hopes that someday I will all of the sudden become crafty and have plenty of time to actually follow through with a pin.

Well, for the sake of my daughter Addy, I decided to embrace any sort of craftiness I may have and attempt a project for her school. Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and I’m sure all of the kids will be handing out cute and creative Valentine’s gifts to all of their classmates. So Addy and I (let’s be honest it was just me) decided to try and create something fun. All you have to do is type in to the search “Valentine’s Day” in Pinterest and hundreds of ideas come up for school Valentine’s.

Since I also have a newborn baby and a million things to do, I decided to create something quick and easy. I chose to do a Valentine involving Swedish fish because that is Addy’s favorite candy.

Here’s what you need:

  • Printable download (the link on Pinterest was one you had to purchase, but there are a ton of free printables out there). The one I chose is a fish bowl that says “So glad we are in the same school.”
  • Clear gift bags from craft store
  • Swedish Fish (you can also use Gold Fish)
  • Some type of red ribbon or twisty tie
  • Heart stickers

All you have to do is print and cut out the design (I used card stock), sign your child’s name on the back (or have them write it themselves if they can), stick it in the bag and voila!!! How easy! I added a sparkly heart to make it a little girlier 🙂

If Swedish fish aren’t your thing, here are a couple other ideas that I thought were really cute:

Pirate Valentine –  I found this awesome Valentine at mer mag. All you will need is a free printable download and either some heart stickers or some Valentine conversation hearts to glue on as the eye patch. At the bottom write “You’re Grrrrrrreat!” and place in a clear plastic bag with some more conversation hearts and there you go!

And there’s always the picture of your child “holding” a lollipop or other piece of candy. This one from Design Mom is super easy. If I thought I could get Addy to pose for this picture I would probably have done this one (I had to bribe her with Swedish fish for the picture below).

So if you are creatively and time challenged like me, just remember to keep whatever you decide to make simple and let Pinterest do most of the thinking for you. I actually had a lot of fun making the gifts and I hope these ideas help spark the craftiness in you, because if I can do it, trust me you can too! Now off to my next
project: organize my daughter’s playroom…yeah, right!!
