What Every New Mom Needs: My Top 5 List

MyNewMomTop5I like to consider myself as somewhat of a veteran to the world of baby products and services now that my oldest is about to turn four. It’s an overwhelming task to register for baby supplies or even know where to start when you are bringing a baby home. After many nights researching Consumer Reports and polling other moms, I came up with my top 5 loves.

A few are great gift ideas and others are more pricey that end up being a special gift to yourself for being such an awesome parent! (Give yourself some credit!) Let me officially introduce you to my personal top 5 list of the greatest  items I’ve ever bought to prep for baby.

1. AMAZON MOM

My best discovery yet. The first time I realized how awesome Amazon Mom could be I was in Target getting ready to purchase a video baby monitor. I pulled up the Amazon app on my phone and used their bar code scanning feature to price compare. And what did I find? The monitor was $75 cheaper on Amazon!!! They also offer a Subscribe and Save feature that lets you automatically schedule deliveries of items you use on a regular basis. I ordered my diapers, wipes, baby food and so much more! It saved me time and space in my cart! I promise it will change your life!

2. STORYTIME SERIES RECLINER

Storytime Series ReclinerI was never a fan of the boney glider chairs that were part wood/part fabric that you see in all of the box baby stores.I wanted something cozy and soft! The best purchase I ever made was Best Chairs Storytime Series recliner/swivel/rocker chair. It is soo comfy and perfect to nurse, rock sick babies, or just take a quick nap. This chair has the versatility to be anywhere in your house so the cost is worth the investment. They offer several fabrics to choose from which means it is a special order so plan ahead 6-8 weeks. Buy Buy Baby carries this line but here is a store locator in case you are outside of Jacksonville.

3. ITZY RITZY PEEK-A-BOO COVER

Itzy ritzy coverLove this one. Keeps baby out of the sun, keeps them cool and keeps strangers from touching your baby! You can’t see it in this picture but the front has a long slit so you can easily pull it back to see baby. The top hole is perfect the those well-intentioned strangers who are dying to sneak a peek at your germ-free bundle!

4. BOB REVOLUTION STROLLER

BOB revolution-se-48I researched strollers for months before deciding on the BOB.This stroller is for the active mom who wants to take their kids out to outdoor festivals, trails, or to workout. It has an optional locking front wheel that serious runners will appreciate. It also handles well over rocky or bumpy surfaces. I bought a cheaper Snap & Go stroller for doctors appointments or places that I knew the BOB might be a tight fit.

This stroller is hands down the easiest to maneuver when running. The wheels easily pop off if you need to fold it down in a tight spot for transport. I am such a fan that I have both the single and double! It does offer a car seat converter but be aware of which are compatible. The downfall to the BOB is its price. It’s very hard to find them used so if you see one you better snag it! I bought mine on Amazon when they were running a 20% off special with free shipping.

5. MUSLIN SWADDLES FROM ADEN + ANAIS

MUSLIN SWADDLES FROM ADEN + ANAISUse as a swaddle, nursing cover, blanket, or car seat cover! They are so lightweight and big enough to give you full coverage if you need to discreetly nurse. This also makes a great baby gift purchase. They come in all different designs and can be found at many baby boutiques but you will find them cheaper at Target or online.

There you have it. These are some of the best products I’ve ever used. I regularly gift the swaddles and car seat cover to my expecting friends!

If you could pick the #1 best item you own as a Mom what would it be?

Tiffany
Tiffany never dreamed she would be mom material let alone a SAHM! Leaving her full-time job as a marketing manager/graphic designer, Tiffany set out to explore the world of spit-up, Sesame Street and sleep deprivation. Managing her two little ones has definitely proven to be a challenge of patience and will but at the end of the day those sweet faces make each day fulfilling. Married to her husband of ten years, the couple takes every opportunity to explore new places even if it means being out of their comfort zone. Outside of her children and spouse, Tiffany truly enjoys vintage stores, photography with her beloved Nikon, a good facial, wine and chick flicks. Her role at Jacksonville Moms Blog will be to take her readers through the journey of living greener. It’s sure to be a great resource for using easy-to-create household cleaners to what to do with all of that food your toddler just wasted!

  1. Totally agree with the BOB Revolution! Best stroller hands down! An also must is the Boppy pillow and take it to the hospital with you. Also the Bebe au Lait or Hooter Hider nursing cover ups are awesome. They allow you to look down and see the baby but covers them so no one can see your business. They even have a little burp cloth made into the corner. Then when your kids get old enough to eat snacks a “snack trap” is a must.

  2. Can’t believe I forgot to say my ultimate favorite thing. The SwaddleMe blankets. A swaddle blanket with velcro. Even if you didn’t pay attention in your birthing classes, you can still be a pro swaddler with these blankets.
