Skin Care Confidential

Now that my career thrives on close ups in HD, you could say this 30 year old mom of one has become more than a little obsessive about my skin care regime. Fortunately with seven years experience in the spa industry as an aesthetician, and body wrapper, I had a great start. In the spirit of full disclosure, today I’m revealing my secrets to you all… and no, there are no needles involved. In fact, you may be surprised at how simple these top ten are.

1. Water

I know it’s simple, but when people complement my skin, drinking water is my first go to advice. Studies show that drinking approximately eight glasses of water a day can remove toxins, promote cellular health, enhance your natural glow, nourish hair, and promote weight loss.

2. Sunscreen

Living in Florida, you should be wearing at minimum an SPF 30 or 35 and reapplying at least hourly when you are in the sun. I love Neutrogena’s Cool mist spray. The coverage is great, its not sticky, and it feels refreshing going on.

3. Wear a hat and sunglasses when you are in the sun!

Again, I know its simple, but these are easy things I do every time I go out to play in the sun. A hat will protect your face from the sun, and also reduce squinting, which will prevent the lines around your eyes and on your forehead.

The great thing about the honest simplicity of these tips is that you can easily pass these great habits onto your children to establish a great routine for them as they grow.

4. Exercise

Nothing says healthy glow like a post work out flush, not to mention all those positive endorphins making you feel great. I work out on average three times a week with my motivation trainer Marie, at Momentum Fitness. Naturally, a great all around healthy diet is also essential.

5. Cream

My makeup artist Tracey Upson turned me onto BB Creams. A (Beauty Balm) is a moisturizer, anti-aging cream, and provides a tint that evens out the complexion. As a busy mom on the go, I will forego a full face of makeup for a BB cream, and the best part is it already includes my sunscreen. My personal favorite is Dr. Jart’s BB Cream found at Sephora.

6. Clarisonic Brush

I am addicted! This sonic brush rotates in alternate directions cleansing the skin six times better than with your hands alone. Keep it in your shower for daily cleansing. Regular use of this product will give the appearance you’ve been getting weekly facials. Check out all the different styles here.

7. Moisturize like Crazy!

Even though at 16 I thought I would be young forever, I still had the good sense (thank you mom) to hydrate my skin daily with a professional moisturizer. Today this habit remains. My moisturizer is Image Skin Cares Vital C Hydrating Intense Moisturizer. I’ve been using the Image products for five years. Consistency matters.

8. Under Eye Care

For tired moms still trying to recover your pre-baby full nights sleep. You cannot live without a great under eye cream and/or concealer. This one is surprisingly affordable. Maybelline’s Age Rewind concealer is my favorite. Easy to apply and blends in great. Dark circles are essentially erased. Tip: pick a color slightly lighter than your skin color to give your eyes a brighter appearance.

9. Microdermabrasion

If you’re a little nervous about peels, try a microdermabrasion. Getting a microderm has the same result as three, 30 to 60% glycolic peels. You get a deep exfoliation that promotes faster cell regeneration and smoother skin. It’s similar to buffing your nails. I go to Total Body Aesthetics because they have a Synergie Microdermabrasion Machine and it is absolutely the best. Ask for the Ultimate Facial. Heaven!

10. Mineral Based Makeup

After five plus years of going mineral, I’m a believer. Mineral makeup provides nourishment to the skin, SPF, moisturizing, and are lighter in weight. I love Glo Mineral makeup. Their powder foundation is perfection.

  1. I agree with everything you mentioned. I would add ANTIOXIDANT SERUM to your regimen. A quality, proven one (my favorite is SkinCeuticals Phloretin CF) will fight more free radicals than sunscreen, hats, sunglasses, etc. and can even reverse some signs of aging.
