Need a Private Escape? Three Romantic Getaways Close to Jacksonville

Feeling a little frazzled? I can relate. This year we have made a family resolution to have more fun. This means more family adventures, but it also means dedicating specific time for my husband and me to get away. We realized that over the past four years we were beginning to lose ourselves–in our work, in our hobbies, in our child, in our stress. It is in our moments of rest we remember who we are and why we love being a family. We take a deep breath and learn to laugh again and experience the pure joy of escape.

With that in mind, I’ve put together a few of my favorite local private escapes.

Fig Tree Inn

Fig Tree INN

Get away in your own backyard to the Fig Tree Inn. You might overlook this rustic beach cottage if you aren’t looking for it. Set in the midst of Jacksonville Beach’s “shabby chic” boutiques, you will have plenty of fun browsing their treasure, or taking a refreshing stroll on the beach one block away.

Under new ownership, the Fig Tree Inn has received a fresh face inside and out, making her ready for visitors needing a relaxing hideaway. The Fig Tree Inn has also recently made itself available for whole house rentals making it perfect for girls weekends away, a family reunion, or a wedding party.

Horse Stamp Inn

Horse Stamp Inn 0931a1Horse Stamp Inn is a country escape located less than an hour from Jacksonville in Waverly, GA. If you are seeking a place to meditate in comfort or just want to rock back and forth on the front porch with a glass of sweet iced tea, then this is the place for you.

Luxurious bedding and the rustically elegant atmosphere immediately release the tension in your nerves as you unwind in this stately plantation. Take a boat ride with the innkeepers on a local river, fish their well-stocked pond, or dive into their salt water pool.

It doesn’t matter what you do–you’ll wish you didn’t have to leave.  With the Golden Isles a short thirty minutes away, there is plenty to offer in history and shopping if your feet feel the need to wonder.

Ocean Lodge

Ocean Lodge Story3

The Ocean Lodge in St. Simons Island, GA is a world unto itself. Designed with the best southern hospitality in mind this Mediterranean style boutique hotel will make you feel like royaltas you settle into one of their fifteen suites. Yes, every room is a suite and feels like it’s own private condo with its spacious interior with separate bedroom from the living area including a full kitchen.

Eat in, or dine in their award winning Rooftop restaurant with an ocean view. St. Simons is full of antebellum charm with it’s large oak trees draping Spanish moss over it’s winding streets, the perfect setting for a casual bike ride through it’s many historic sites.

Make sure to stop at the still operating St. Simons lighthouse and climb to the top for the best view of the island and it’s neighboring barrier reef islands. In short, it’s an idyllic romantic setting.

Honorable Mentions

On my bucket list, both Greyfield Inn on Cumberland Island, and Elizabeth Pointe Lodge in Fernandina also offer incredibly private, and unique spots to unwind and reconnect to what’s important. I look forward to trying these two out for myself and giving you a full review.
