Disney’s Frozen is a huge sensation! The movie is breaking box office records and creating hairbrush singers out of all our little girls. Is “Let It Go” on constant rotation in your house too? “Do You Want to Build a Snowman?” leaves me a weepy mess every time.
My five-year-old daughter Annabel saw the sing-along version in the theater last week and the Frozen mania in our house is at an all time high. She loves everything Frozen, but most items at Disney, Target, Walmart, and the local party and craft stores are already sold out.
If your little one has a birthday coming up, a weekly play date, or you just want to celebrate Frozen’s Blu-Ray/DVD release on Tuesday, March 18th, here are some Frozen party ideas to get you started! I’ve put together some fun local options and creative solutions that will make you the “coolest” mom around!
“Frozen” PLACES:
What can be more perfect for a Frozen party than ICE? Ice skating party packages are available and include pizza, drinks, and a reserved table for you to display some Frozen decorations. You can also invite your play group out to one of the daily public skating sessions and encourage the little ones to wear a pair of “Anna” ear muffs or “Elsa” gloves. Clarke House Park in Orange Park
Turn this fun location into your very own Arendelle. The playground features a giant wooden castle that will let you recreate Frozen’s “opening up the gates.” There are nature trails, gardens, beautiful trees, and a lake. Pottery Works has snowman and snowflake ornaments available all year round. Call at least a week ahead to make sure they have the amount you’ll need. Kids can use the icy blue and white paints to decorate their Frozen inspired treasures. If you book a party table, they’ll let you bring in your own Frozen snacks! Host your own Frozen yogurt party! Reserve some tables and pass out Frozen coloring and activity sheets to keep the little ones entertained while they enjoy their cool treats. (Various locations)
“Frozen” CRAFTS:
“Do You Want To Build A Snowman?”
You can do an edible or non-edible version of Frozen’s lovable snowman, Olaf. For the edible version, you’ll need powdered munchkin donuts or large marshmallows with pretzel stick arms, mini chocolate chip eyes and buttons, and a candy corn or orange candy nose. For the non-edible, use cotton balls or felt cutouts with fun beads or craft paper for the arms, eyes, buttons, and nose.
Paper Snowflakes
You can’t go wrong with this classic craft. Everyone can create a unique Frozen snowflake using white card stock paper and then decorate with markers, glitter, jewels, and Frozen stickers.
Crowns & Antlers
You can help your little ones make an Elsa princess crown or Sven reindeer antlers that they can wear to the party or play date. You can find simple crown kits at any local craft store or make both the Elsa crowns and reindeer antlers using a simple template, craft foam, and ribbon like the one I found at My Sister’s Suitcase.
“Frozen” SNACKS:
Elsa’s Snowflake Cookie Bar
Make sugar cookies using snowflake cookie cutters and let your kids walk down a special Frozen cookie bar to add icing, glitter sprinkles, small candies, and powdered sugar.
Olaf Pizza
You and your kids can make a fun snowman pizza like the one I found on Delia Creates. It’s so easy and super yummy. You can use the same recipe to create individual mini Olaf pizzas too!
Frozen at Subway
Head to your local Subway location and pick up a kids meal in the Frozen themed carry bags while supplies last. This is a fun and easy way to create an instant Frozen lunch party.
Frozen and Healthy!
If you want to go the healthy route, how about a tray filled with Olaf noses (carrot sticks), eyes (raisins), and arms (pretzels)? Or you can create your own Frozen drink: skim vanilla almond milk over ice cubes topped with fat free whipped cream and blue crystal sprinkles. I did this for Annabel after school one day while we were listening to the Frozen soundtrack.
“Frozen” DECORATIONS:
Mini Elsa Castles
This one requires that you dig through your summer beach bags to find your sandcastle forms. You add water and freeze them overnight. For an icy effect, add blue food coloring to the water. Then remove the mini ice sculptures to decorate your party table or entryway. You’ve created Elsa’s ice castle!
Blue and White Color Theme
The easiest way to create the Frozen atmosphere is to decorate in the icy blue and white colors. (Think Elsa’s gorgeous “Let It Go” dress.) You can fill glass pedestal jars with “ice cubes” (mini marshmallows) and display blue and white “icicles” (rock candy sticks) from tree branches just like I found at Crissy’s Crafts. Don’t forget to head over to On & Poppin’ at Avenues Mall for a blue and white popcorn mix. The popcorn is yummy and it’s an instant decoration when placed in clear containers on your party tables. You can also pick up icy blue and white plates, napkins, streamers, and balloons from any local party store.
Icy Lights
Now it’s time to dig through your Christmas bins and bring out your white twinkle lights. You can place the strands around the food table display or the party entrance.
Frozen Flowers
I love baby’s breath flowers and I use them to decorate many of my own parties and gatherings. For a Frozen party, you can put baby’s breath or any snowy white flowers (real or artificial) in mason jars and silver tins and place them on the party tables.
