Power Pilates Plus :: Perfect for Mom

Before last month, I had never attended a Pilates class. Honestly, I thought that it would be too easy of a workout, and I wouldn’t get much out of it. Maybe some good core work, but that’s it. How much variety could they possibly offer on those reformer boards? Well, after attending my first Power Pilates Plus (PPP) class I realized how wrong my perception was. Not only was it a great workout, but we also worked EVERY (or what felt like every) muscle in our body using the reformers. You would be surprised what those boards can do!

They don’t call it Power Pilates Plus for nothing. PPP offers so much more than just your typical Pilates studio: Barre, Cycling, willPower and Grace to name a few. One of my favorite things about this studio is that for each class they offer, they also offer a high-intensity version. So if you’re new or need something less intense, you have the option of standard intensity class. But if you want to step it up a notch, you can go to the high-intensity version which is basically the standard class but with a quicker pace, more reps, and more cardio.

Cycling

These are not your typical cycling classes. PPP uses “unstationary” bikes for their cycle classes. The RealRyder® cycle turns, tilts, and leans as you ride, providing the fluid sensation of an outdoor road bike. They claim that they burn 20% more calories compared to your traditional stationary bike and after attending my first spin class there, I’m a believer. It took me a while to get the hang of the moving bike, but once I did I could tell my entire body was working hard, and I left the class soaked from head to toe with sweat (my kinda workout)!

willPower and Grace

At first, I thought this was a fancy name for a yoga class, but man was I wrong. The willPower Method® combines alignment-based movements from Pilates and yoga with strong, athletic calisthenics and dance principals; yielding safe, efficient workouts for students of all levels. If you want a full body, calorie burning workout, this is your class.

Barre

The Barre class at PPP is a low impact mix of athletic, fundamental and functional exercises that will tighten and tone your entire body. Again, I had never taken a Barre class before attending one at PPP, and I was pleasantly surprised at how dynamic and comprehensive the workout was. This workout is great for someone who needs a low impact class, such as right after having a baby or nursing an injury. I may think differently after trying the high-intensity version, however!

Pilates

From individual sessions to parent-child classes, this studio has it all when it comes to Pilates. The two most popular classes are Power Pilates Workout of the Week (WOTW) and Power Pilates High-Intensity Circuit Training (HICT).  The sessions range from 30 and 45 minutes to 1 hour long and are for all skill levels. All classes focus on optimal strength, flexibility, endurance and posture without building bulk or stressing joints. Check out their website for a complete list of classes and descriptions.

Not only do I love this place for the great workouts they offer, but I also love it because it’s perfect for my busy mom schedule. They offer SEVERAL classes both early to mid morning and afternoon and evening. There are plenty of options available to accommodate the crazy schedules us moms are trying to juggle. They have classes as long as an hour and 15 minutes and as short as 30 minutes if you just need a quick sweat. Check out their website for a full list of classes and times that they offer.
