Wilma’s Little People’s School was founded in 1973 by Dr. Kay Johnson in order to give students in Jacksonville University’s early childhood courses an opportunity to work with young children. It is named in honor of Wilma Price Smith (1918-1985) as a living memorial to her and her lifelong devotion to children.

It is Wilma’s Little People’s School mission that each child has the right to have a developmentally appropriate education. We believe that young children should have a relaxed and nurturing environment that is developmentally structured to meet their needs. Early Learning Center strives to provide the highest standards of educational excellence within a Christ-centered preschool environment. Beach ELC provides both part-time and full-day options for children 18 months through VPK, 4 years of age.

The most important period of learning for a child is from birth to the age of six. Beaches Chapel School is an outreach of Beaches Chapel Church. We are a non-denominational Christian environment with an emphasis on academic excellence. We are the longest established Christian School serving the beach community since 1974.

Community Connections Child Development Center

We serve low-income children from the residents of our Davis Center from six weeks to 5 years of age in our four-star, state-of-the-art program. Age appropriate activities encourage positive and healthy development. Our Center offers the new Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten (VPK); low teacher to children ratio, breakfast, lunch and afternoon snack provided at no additional cost.

Private Full Time Islamic School. Al-Furqan Academy was established in August of 1997 by some of the same founding members of ICNEF (Islamic Center of Northeast Florida). DLC Nurse & Learn (DLC) is a quality, child care facility for children with severe disabilities and medically complex conditions as well as “typically developing children. Our Jacksonville Childcare And Preschool Learning Center Programs Are The Best
Located in Jacksonville’s Southside, our childcare programs incorporate creative play, song and dance, planned activities, arts and crafts, and daily outside play activities. We provide childcare for children ages six weeks through five years old.

Our Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten (VPK) program is available to children age four with a birthday on-or-before September 1st of each school year. Our Jacksonville Summer VPK program is for children age 4 with a birthday after September 1st. Children ages five and seven love our Summer Camp.

Founder, Martin Freeman, is a former law enforcement officer and is a father of 5. He recalls hearing the concerns of many coworkers, friends, and associates regarding the lack of childcare during their demanding unconventional work schedules. A probationary officer, who at the time had recently graduated from the Academy was placed on the midnight shift. She couldn’t find adequate childcare for her hours of work and also suffered from postpartum depression to the point that she attempted suicide. After Martin and his team rescued her, he was determined never to let this happen to another person. Martin’s endeavor to help ensure that no other parent face this type of situation was developed. His passion to provide a quality 7 days a week childcare, which would provide childcare during traditional and or non-traditional work hours for first Responders and all working parents was created.

Padawan Academy students receive priority enrollment for kindergarten at San Jose Primary, a tuition-free charter school that serves grades K-5 on the campus immediately next door.
